Volunteer Programs
In line with the mission, vision and values of the Breast Cancer Resource Center to serve the needs of those affected by breast and other cancers, the Center has developed a program of community involvement through volunteerism. The opportunity to volunteer offers rewards for all involved and serves a crucial role for the Center. The volunteer can help bring, literally and figuratively, the support, information and resources appropriate to each individual seeking help through the Center. In essence, the volunteer becomes the extension of the organization to the community. Volunteers help raise awareness of Center programs and resources, serve as good-will ambassadors and can positively impact development and expansion of services through creativity, skills and networking. Volunteers also serve an important role in building and expanding relationships with our community partners.
Volunteers who work directly with clients will do so according to the client's individual need(s). As this can be highly emotional for both parties, training is required and provided for those wanting to become emotional and practical support volunteers.
In addition to providing support to Center clients, volunteers can improve and enrich the workings of everyday operations by assisting staff with a variety of tasks. These volunteers might enjoy helping staff with clerical, administrative, technical and/or educational assignments. Appropriate training or instruction will be provided by staff. Whatever the type of contribution, volunteerism is a challenging, rewarding, reciprocal enterprise for all parties and a necessary tool for expanding the scope of the Center's services to the community.
If you are interested in exploring the possibility of volunteering for the Center, please read over the Volunteer Job Descriptions form and then fill out the Volunteer Application and submit to Deborah Openden, Volunteer Coordinator, at dopenden@nmcrc.org or call at 505-242-0605 or mail to: Breast Cancer Resource Center, 1009 Bradbury SE, Suite 16, Albuquerque, NM 87106.
